Credit Shield Plus

You can now benefit from our optional comprehensive Credit Shield Plus, which protects your outstanding balance in the event of Death and Permanent Total Disability (PTD) and covers your monthly minimum installment in the event of Involuntary Loss of Employment (ILOE) for employed eligible cardholders or Temporary Total Disability (TTD) for self employed eligible cardholders.

Eligibility

All HSBC Credit Cardholders between the age of 18 and 64 may choose to be enrolled to benefit from Credit Shield Plus. The cover will cease when the Cardholder attains 65 years of age.

Cardholders who opt out of the scheme can join in again, after a waiting period of 90 days.

Monthly Premium

The premium is charged at 0.65% per month of the cardholder’s monthly outstanding balance and will appear on the monthly statement.

– Permanent Total Disability (PTD):

Means disability from bodily injury, sickness or disease so as to prevent the insured credit cardholder to perform any kind of work, occupation or profession for compensation, profit or gain for the remainder of his lifetime.

Limit of benefits:

Each insured cardholder is covered for up to the amount of the credit limit granted to him - provided however that this amount does not exceed BHD5,000 for Classic Credit Cards, BHD10,000 for Gold Credit Cards and BHD20,000 for Premium Credit Cards.

Maximum Benefit Payment Term:

Benefits are subject to an aggregate of BHD20,000 on all types of cards held by the cardholder.

– Involuntary loss of employment (ILOE):

Means the unemployment of the insured credit cardholder arising out of the unilateral decision of the employer to terminate his employment contract for any reason other than those mentioned under exclusions.

Limit of benefits:

The insurance company will pay to the Bank one monthly minimum installment due on the Cardholder’s previous month credit card statement for each period of 30 days of proved unemployment.

Maximum Benefit Payment Term:

Each insured cardholder is covered up to a maximum of 3 months per incident, and up to a maximum of 6 months in case of multiple ILOE claims.

–Temporary Total Disability (TTD):

Means insured credit cardholder’s total and temporary disability to perform his own work as a result of accidental bodily injury, sickness or disease. The state of TTD is exclusively recognized by a physician designated by the Insurance Company.

Limit of benefits:

The insurance company will pay to the Bank one monthly minimum installment due on the Cardholder’s previous month credit card statement for each period of 30 days of TTD. The benefit payment is subject to a waiting period of 60 days continuously. The waiting period is calculated from the first day of TTD.

Maximum Benefit Payment Term:

Each insured credit cardholder is covered for up to a maximum of 6 months per incident and up to a maximum of 12 months incase of multiple TTD claims.

Purchase Protection

Summary of Benefits

To insure purchases* made with an HSBC Premier credit card against theft or accidental damage occurring within ninety (90) days from the date of purchase as indicated on the store receipt, up to the per occurrence limit of USD3,000, and subject to the annual aggregate limit per cardholder of USD20,000.

Eligible Persons

Holders of valid Primary and Supplementary HSBC Premier credit cards.

In the event of a Claim

Just call on +973 1721 8057 within 15 days from the date of the incident for claims within the Kingdom of Bahrain and within 30 days from the date of the incident for claims abroad. You will then need to complete a claim form and hand it over along with the following:

  • Original purchase receipt
  • Photocopy of the billing statement
  • Photograph of damaged property
  • Damaged property when requested
  • Full description of the circumstances preceding the loss/damage
  • Original police report in the case of lost/stolen/willfully damaged property

The Insurer will then give you a cheque to refund the value of the purchase less a fee of BHD15 per claim, subject to the policy terms and conditions.

Excluded Items

  • Property that is covered under a guarantee or warranty unless the loss or damage is not otherwise covered
  • Contact lenses and spectacles
  • Dentures and other medical aids including but not limited to hearing aids, artificial limbs, crutches, wheelchairs, walkers and braces
  • Consumables and perishables
  • Motor vehicles, motor cycles or their motors, equipment and accessories (including communication devices intended solely for use in the vehicle), bicycles, marine craft, aircraft, model air planes and boats
  • Business property or property purchased to be used for a business purpose
  • Cash, bank and currency notes, cheques, travellers cheques, money orders, postal orders, postage stamps, securities, negotiable instruments of any kind, bullion, rare or precious coins, documents or tickets of any kind, unset gemstones
  • Livestock, pets, animals, plants or other living creatures
  • Property sold or given to others except for property that is given to spouse and children

Summary of Benefits

  • Cover against fraudulent Credit Card transactions as a result of a loss or theft
  • Refund of the costs incurred by the cardholder to replace keys and identification cards that are lost or stolen at the same time as the insured Credit Card
  • The loss or theft of the card must be reported to the bank immediately
  • Eligibility
  • Notification of loss or theft of the Credit Card immediately and not later than 48 hours to the Bank

Limit of Indemnity

Travel Insurance

Summary of benefits

  • Cover against accidental death or permanent total disablement
  • Medical expenses in the event of accident/sickness and medical evacuation

  • Covers the insurance requirements for obtaining a Schengen Visa

The cover period is from the time of departure as shown on the ticket until the date of return or 30 days from date of departure whichever is earlier. Tickets must be purchased using your HSBC Premier Credit Card.

Limit of Indemnity

  • Accidental death up to USD125,000 for individuals aged between 18 and 65, and USD25,000 for children aged between 6 months and 17 years
  • Permanent total disablement up to USD125,000 for individuals aged between 18 and 65, and USD25,000 for children aged between 6 months and 17 years
  • Death or permanent total disablement caused by accident in a common carrier or private car up to USD250,000 for individuals aged between 18 and 65, and USD50,000 for children aged between 6 months and 17 years
  • Death or permanent total disablement caused by accident in a common air carrier up to USD375,000 for individuals aged between 18 and 65, and USD75,000 for children aged between 6 months and 17 years
  • The loss of two eyes, two limbs or one eye and one limb: USD125,000 for individuals between 18 and 65 years old and USD25,000 for children between 6 months and 17 years
  • The loss of one eye or one limb: USD62,500 for individuals between 18 and 65 years old and USD12,500 for children between 6 months and 17 years
  • Emergency medical expenses (accident and sickness) up to USD125,000 per person per trip . A fee of USD25 will be deducted on every claim
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation up to USD250,000 per person per trip
  • Death repatriation up to USD12,500
  • Hospital cash benefits USD1,200 (USD100 per day, maximum of 12 days)
  • Compassionate visit up to USD7,500
  • Flight delays in excess of 10 hours up to USD150 per person per trip and USD300 per family per trip
