International Bank Account Number update

Further to our communication on International Bank Account Number (IBAN) in August 2011 and a Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) directive (EDBO/58/2011 dated 26 October 2011), we would like to advise you that all existing standing instructions and payments templates set up on your HSBC accounts (excluding HSBCnet) will be updated. During this update HSBC will replace existing beneficiary account numbers with their corresponding IBANs in a one time exercise that all banks in Bahrain will be undertaking to ensure that customers are not required to resubmit existing instructions held by the bank.

Effective immediately please obtain and input your beneficiaries' IBANs in the beneficiary account numbers fields for all new payment instructions, as these will not be captured in the above exercise. Please be aware that a failure to provide an IBAN in a payment instruction could lead to the payment being rejected and not processed.

For HSBCnet templates for both TT and ACH payments after 31 January 2012 you will be required to update the account number and replace it with an IBAN on the template before sending the payment. We recommend you contact your beneficiaries to update your records as soon as possible.
